Aphex Twin

The only thing that truly matters on this new music Friday is the release of the new Aphex Twin EP, Cheetah (edit: forgot about the new Avalanches LP, also very exciting). Named after a digital syntheziser from the early 1990's, the music here reminds me of his best work from that era. The above video for lead single “CIRKLON3[Kolkhoznaya mix]” was made by 12-year-old Dubliner and Aphex Twin superfan, Ryan Wyer, who has, incredibly, created something that fits perfectly into the Richard D James universe.

While not nearly as impressive as Wyer's work, a few years ago I made my own homebrew Aphex Twin video for “Pulsewidth” from the classic Selected Ambient Works 85-92 using footage I shot in five Japanese cities.
